Reflection of Learning Music
From the text of Same Old Song, I have learned that in the beginning, pop music targeted at the youth, not for adults. Parents did not like pop music so much and limited their kids to listen. However, pop music became more violent and sexual and dominated the Billboard charts today. Different generations have their own pop music. The old one becomes a fad and the new one is created. From the text of Scientists Just Discovered Why All Pop Music Sounds Exactly the Same, I have learned that pop music is more and more similar now. Besides, the top songs also sound the same. The pop music styles are not various and the musicians sing with similar skills. From the text of Blues, I have learned that the blues is originated from American traditional music, African Americans’ work songs, and spirituals. It was created and widely spread by African Americans. The forms of the blues have country blues, classic blues, urban blues, and rhythm and blues. Besides, soul, funk and rap music were inspired by the blues to create. From the text of Rap, I have learned that the elements of rap are content, rhymes and rhythm, and the speaking of tone and speed. Rap music became more and more popular. And later it appeared many female singers to sing rap music.
My Aha moment was when I was doing the project of pop music webhunt. I thought the top 5 songs I all did not know. I played each songs and chose three of them to write down in the paper. When I played Senorita, I said, “Oh my God, I know this song! I have ever heard it in public places for a few times, but I just do not know the name.” I felt excited and I thought it must be the most famous song recently.
The bumper sticker I created is Songs & Singers. The whole unit talks about music. And I think music consists of songs and singers. Singers sing songs. Then many kinds of songs are divided into different genres. Finally, many genres form music. The four texts of unit 4 show the kinds of music like rap, blues, and there are many examples given to us, singers and their famous songs.
In this unit, I have learned many terms of music, for example, LP, DJ, jug band, juke joint. I learned LP in class. My group explained to me that it is a musical player like a flower and teacher explained it by a vivid painting. It is a round black record. I know what is DJ, but I did not know the full name, teacher told us Disc jockey.
During reading the text, I did not know the definition of jug band. So I searched an online dictionary. Jug band means a music group that uses jugs, washboards, kazoos, and other improvised instruments. I think it looks like an improvisational performance in the platform of subway or in the corner of streets. After learning jug band, I can use it to describe these temporary shows.

                     Blues was created by African Americans in South of the United States in the late 1800s. During the slave trade, millions of Africans had to leave their homeland. They were only allowed to continue their traditions in the few places where they worked and the churches. In order to communicate with each other, enslaved Africans created work songs because they were not allowed to talk while working.           After slavery was abolished, more musical instruments were available to African American. Unit 3: Film Festival---Out of Tune

Review of Out of Tune   Out of Tune is a comedy and tragedy movie with music. It is a Danish movie, which was produced by Frederikke Aspöck. The story is about a successful businessman named Markus who is in prison. He is so popular among people in the prison. In the beginning, he doesn’t adapt to stay here. He was beaten. After listening to a security’s suggestion, he joins in a choir, where has a experienced leader named Niel. When Markus joins in, Niel asks him to sing their song, using their skill. However, Markus has his own idea and he wants to change the song and style. He even wants to be the leader. Due to Markus’s desire to control the choir, he takes advantage of people in prison to help him replace Niel. Markus becomes the new leader, however, his ambition is found by others and they advocate Niel again. In the end, Markus is released from prison and writes a book about his life in prison.
